In 1986,
Oahu Speech consisted of just one of enthusiastic and dedicated SLP. That would be me, Mary Marasovich. Armed with 10 years of experience in a variety of settings, I had learned that my happy place was an eclectic setting that allowed me to work independently with all ages and all types of speech and language disorders. Thus, Private Practice was for me.
Over the years Oahu Speech has evolved into a thriving and dynamic clinic that includes eight additional SLPs whose various interests complement our practice. Amongst our group are amazing therapists who know their stuff in areas like apraxia of speech, swallowing, voice, gender affirming speech therapy, adult aphasia, child language and articulation, augmentative communication and selective mutism to name a few. We readily consult with each other and share our knowledge via training sessions. A great improvement over our 1986 staff of one!
Our philosophy has remained constant: Listen to our patients’ needs and do our very best to meet those needs. To that end we provide therapy in our clinic, in our patients’ homes, school, community setting, or via Zoom. We consult with other professionals, coordinate with school programs, research new ideas, and maintain Continuing Education Units to stay up on current practices.
It’s hard to believe that Oahu Speech has been succeeding for almost forty years. We are living proof of the cliché “If you love what you do, you’ll never work a day”.
